Kevin MacPhee Scrapes Final Table Payout AT EPT

Canadian poker players could be among those interested in the recent results at one high-profile European event. With the WSOPE in Cannes and the European Poker Tour (EPT) taking place in San Remo, Italy, much of the top action has been held overseas of late. However, that has not deterred the efforts of Canadas poker pros, with Mike McDonald and Christopher McClung hitting the headlines in for their performances in recent weeks. However another Canadian card ace, Kevin MacPhee, is the one celebrating after making the final eight of the San Remo Main Event. The pro failed to bother the top of the leader board but managed to scrape an eighth-place finish – earning €63,694 for his trouble.Andrey Pateychuk was crowned the eventual winner and walked away with a check for €680,000, while Dimitar Danchev scooped a flat €600,000 for finishing second and Australias Daniel Neilson rounded out the top three.

WSOP Europe Predictions Revisited

The WSOP Europe has reached their final table with Shawn Buchanan, Chris Moorman, and Jake Cody headlining.  Normally I would wait until after Main Event was finished to update my predictions, but since none of my predictions are impacted by the final table, I figured I would go ahead and share how I did.

Phil Hellmuth Will Have One Strong Showing and May Take the POY Lead Push

After Hellmuth whiffed Events 2 through 7, I almost considered this a loss, but since my wording said may take the lead I get to call this a push.  I know, I am angle shooting my own predictions.

Ben Lamb Whiffs the WSOP-E Win

In a way, it might be good that Lamb whiffed the WSOP-E.  Maybe he is saving up his run good for the November Nine.  I think he would take that.

Team Europe Retains Caesars Cup Lose

When I predicted this, Doyle Brunson, Huck Seed, and Dario Minieri were all still playing the event.  Normally I would throw this prediction out based on the circumstances changing.  There is just one problem with that.  Phil and Johnny took two out of the three matches.

In other words, two of the reasons I felt Americas would lose are the reason they won.  I am not saying we would have gotten the same result had Brunson and Seed not played.

Moral of the story is dont underestimate the old guys.

At Least One Big Name Will Take a Bracelet Win

Thank you to Michael Mizrachi for putting me over the hump.  His second career bracelet kept the trend alive of big names taking bracelets at the WSOP-E.

Jake Cody may join him should he take the Main, and I think it is safe to say that Shawn Buchanan has made a name for himself after his impressive string of cashes at this years WSOP-E.

There you have it.  Thanks to my angle shoot, I am 2-1-1 on my WSOP-E predictions this year.

Online legend leads after Day 1 EPT of San Remo

While Chris Moorman’s incredible run in 2011 is being looked at as one of the best transitions to live poker from an online poker legend, another online star has also been quietly leaving his mark on the live tournament trail this year, Taylor “ambiguosity” Paur. Paur is currently playing in the EPT San Remo Main Event and managed to end Day 1b of the tournament as the overall chip-leader, bagging up 188,200 chips at the end of the night.

This time around the EPT San Remo attracted a field of 837 entrants, making this the second straight year the tournament has seen a marked decline in attendance.

Paur had an impressive five cashes at the 2011 WSOP this summer, including a 5th place finish in the $10k 6-Handed NLHE Championship, and recently final tabled the $3,000 NLHE Shootout at the WSOPE in Cannes. With
