Rivals ready to clash in Washington DC

Things are getting very interesting in Washington as two sides with highly contrasting opinions are preparing to clash over the much publicised Online Gambling Bill.

The fight

One encouraging statistic has appeared courtesy of the Washington Times though who have carried out a poll about the legalisation of online poker. This survey saw 85% of residents vote in favour of allowing online gambling meaning that 14% were against the move and only 1% were undecided.

Whats more 35 Washington residents have also been quick to air their opinions in public with one man stating that Poker is a game of skill, plain and simple. Here in the land of the free we are not allowed to play, but yet so much of the rest of the world has already legalized it..

Obviously, this poll in the press carries no legal weight and the desire to back online gambling will need to be reflected in the various public consultations which will be fed back to the Committee on Finance and Revenue.

From there, Jack Evans (chairman of the committee) will consider the proposal further and invite further discussion on the matter. He will also consult heavily with the D.C. Inspector General with regards to how the city managed the underlying lottery contract when it was awarded a couple of years ago.

Opposition to the Gambling Bill isnt waiting

They appear to have some support with Council member David A. Catania suggesting that he would be happy to co-sponsor this bill, which Wells believes would allow an open discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of online gambling and whether it is right to be legalised in Washington.

Michael A. Brown, the councillor who fought so hard to drive the online gambling bill as a part of the supplementary budget bill is continuing to stand his ground though. In an open letter to his fellow councillors, he has stated that while the opposition may have the desire to stop online gambling, they dont have the numbers.

He has also reiterated his belief that such a bill would be an excellent way
