Hitting the Nuts now Available on DVD
Poker fans all over the world were pretty excited about the movie, hitting the Nuts, a comedic documentary or “mockumentary”, as the creator pegs it, is about a group of American misfits who partake in an annual illegal poker championship in Indiana. The story isn’t entirely about poker and it focuses quite a bit on the story of the characters’ lives. The movie won the “Best Feature Film” Award at the 2011 Derby City Film Festival and was a pretty big hit among poker fans when it was shown. If you missed it and would like to see it, don’t fret, Hitting the Nuts was just released on DVD this April 15 and you can purchase it from www.hittingthenuts.com
Poker fans aren’t the least bit spoiled when it comes to movies. In fact, it’s horribly rare for a good poker movie to be seen despite the number of people trying it out. You could even say that we’re getting the bad end of the deal when it comes to movies. Poker, it seems, is cursed when it comes to good movies. Even great directors can get all frumpy when they begin to do a film about poker. It’s a good thing, then, that Hitting the Nuts is only a film that pretends to be about poker. The film was a big success at the 2011 Derby City Film Festival, having won the Best Feature Film and described by Director Kristopher Rommel as “Perhaps the funniest movie in the history of our film festival”. The film is rich with a number of funny and interesting characters such as a Phil Hellmuth fan, a returning champion, an amish player, and even a preacher. The film was directed by Joe Boyd. The film also won the Audience Choice for Best Feature Film in the 2010 Cincinnati International Film Festival.
As you can gather from the number of awards it received, this film is well worth the money and well worth the wait. It has been released on DVD this April and can actually be bought for the prize of $15.99. Half of the stocks they made for the release of this movie were actually sold out in its first week of release, so you better be quick if you want your own copy. Still, Director Boyd is currently seeking other forms of distribution, so don’t lose hope yet if you ever find that you’re too late to buy one.
