The European Poker Awards were held in Paris, France last weekend, and Jake Cody of the UK took home the awards for both Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year. This marks the 10th annual hosting of the European Poker Awards.
Cody established himself as one of the hottest new names in competitive poker in 2010, a year that saw him win the Main Events at both the European Poker Tour Deauville in January and the World Poker Tour London in August. Cody also received a nomination in the category of Outstanding Tournament Performance, though that award ultimately went to James Bord, also of the UK.
In the category of Player of the Year, Cody beat out nominees Sam Trickett of England, Theo Jorgensen of Denmark and Vladimir Schemelev of Russia.

One of the leading Connecticut casinos is making a major move in the comps stakes as it looks to reward players for their time spend on machines at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. The new compensation scheme will feature special software and hardware that will allow them to print promotional materials for players that are tailored to their individual gambling habits.
The high-tech system, developed by TransAct Technologies of Hamden, consists of a device that attaches to TransAct printers previously installed in some 3,000 slots at Foxwoods. It links to software that tracks players’ gaming preferences and buying habits – information collected on the magnetic strips of player’s club cards.

Octavian Voegele of Austria made his live poker presence known last year on the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour, where he impressively appeared at three of the final tables during the series and finished third at the 2010 ANZPT Adelaide Main Event. Since then, the player known as “vegele” in online circles has been all but quiet on the live tournament scene, with finishes such as 190th at last month’s Caribbean Adventure and 92nd place at a $1,000 NLHE event at the 2010 WSOP.
